Finding NP preceptors across the Evansville tri-state

Two sets of rules for every hospital placement

USI's side stays the same wherever you look: you identify the preceptor and site, the Graduate Clinical Liaison approves them, the facility signs a Clinical Education Agreement, and your Preceptor Packet (Form G) reaches usi1nursing@usi.edu 6 weeks before the rotation. Large systems add their own layer on top: an affiliation requirement for your school, application windows set months ahead, priority rules and their own compliance software. A placement works only when both layers line up, so read a system's student page before you approach anyone who works there, and ask usi1nursing@usi.edu whether USI already holds an agreement with that facility. If it does not, the facility's office manager or education coordinator names the person who will sign one; students are not permitted to sign it themselves.

Deaconess: affiliation first, then a semester application

Deaconess's advanced practice student page covers NP and PA students and sets three conditions: your program must have an active affiliation agreement with Deaconess, NP students need a valid RN license as defined by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, and students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. It also says Deaconess is "not currently pursuing new affiliations" and gives priority to its own employees and to students from local schools.

The application is a form plus a letter of introduction that states your licensure goal, such as FNP, ACNP or PMHNP, and names your school's clinical coordinator, emailed to the student rotations mailbox. A new application is due every semester. Once approved, rotations and compliance run through myClinicalExchange, where your school's clinical coordinator requests the rotation.

An April 30 deadline for a Fall rotation lands months before Form G's 6-week mark, so a student hoping to start NRSG 643 at Deaconess needs to be working on it by early spring. The NP application form, revised in 2021, says students may contact preceptors directly, and that the system's academic coordinator confirms each placement with the preceptor and practice manager.

Vincennes, Washington and Owensboro

Good Samaritan in Vincennes has a Nurse Practitioner student application inside myClinicalExchange, where students request a placement and track its status. Its windows close January 31 for Summer, March 31 for Fall and August 31 for Spring, with notification dates about a month after each. The page states nothing about affiliation, fees or bringing your own preceptor.

Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, Indiana describes a general clinical rotation process: orientation handbook forms, immunization records and a records form signed by the school, all due before your start date. NP students are not singled out.

Owensboro Health mentions NPs only in its Clinical Observation program, which is job shadowing with a physician or an allied professional such as a PA or NP. USI's FAQ is explicit that observation hours do not count toward direct patient clinical hours, so shadowing there cannot stand in for a precepted rotation.
