Wisconsin NP clinicals and the University of Southern Indiana
The University of Southern Indiana takes Wisconsin residents into every one of its online nursing programs, and its disclosure says the NP routes meet Wisconsin's requirements. Before you line up a Wisconsin preceptor, know two things: Wisconsin's Board of Nursing expects to approve nursing schools based in other states, even at the graduate level, and a new APRN statute has governed practice there since September 1, 2026.

Wisconsin's approval rule for out-of-state schools
Unlike Ohio, Wisconsin asks for board approval up front. Wisconsin's Form 3067-OEE (revised April 13, 2026, and issued by the state's safety and professional services department, DSPS) reads Wis. Admin. Code N 1.06 as requiring Board of Nursing approval for any school of nursing located outside Wisconsin, from practical nursing up through the graduate level, post-licensure bachelor's degrees among them. Approved schools stay approved by submitting a self-evaluation on Form 3069OEE.
Our research could not confirm whether USI holds Wisconsin approval. Ask the Graduate Clinical Liaison before you approach Wisconsin sites, and keep the answer in writing. The same form says faculty and preceptors at Wisconsin clinical sites must be licensed by Wisconsin or hold a privilege to practice there.

The new APRN law and your preceptor
2025 Wisconsin Act 17 reset advanced practice licensing on September 1, 2026. DSPS now sorts APRN licenses by role (NP, CRNA, CNS or CNM) and has turned every old APNP license into an APRN one. An APRN who wants to work independently of a physician must apply separately and win Board approval, so AANP's reduced-practice label, which rests on required physician collaboration, now varies from one NP to the next.
For you, the change touches paperwork more than teaching. Expect a Wisconsin NP's license to read APRN in the Preceptor Packet's license field, and USI still asks for board certification in your specialty and a year of advanced practice. PA and physician preceptors follow the track rules.
Compact licensing and Wisconsin search areas
Wisconsin took part in the compact from its January 2018 start, meaning a multistate RN license issued by Wisconsin or any other member state satisfies USI's license rule at Wisconsin sites. Is USI's online FNP program available to Wisconsin residents?
Yes. Wisconsin is not on the MSN FNP enrollment ban, and USI lists the program as meeting Wisconsin's requirements. The FNP runs 750 direct clinical hours across NRSG 643, NRSG 645 and NRSG 647, laid out on the FNP program page. Before your first clinical course, check with USI where it stands on Wisconsin's out-of-state school approval.
What is Wisconsin Form 3067-OEE?
A DSPS form, last revised in April 2026, covering Board of Nursing approval of nursing schools located outside Wisconsin under Wis. Admin. Code N 1.06. It concerns the school, not the individual student. Ongoing approval then runs through a second form, 3069OEE, a self-evaluation.
Does Wisconsin's new APRN law change my clinical hours?
Not the hours: USI fixes those at 750 in every NP track. What changed on September 1, 2026 is how your Wisconsin preceptor is licensed. APNP licenses became APRN licenses in four roles, and independent practice now needs a Board sign-off of its own, so the practice you join may or may not include a collaborating physician.
I live in Illinois. Can I do USI clinicals in Wisconsin?
USI enrolls Illinois residents, but Illinois stays outside the compact, and its licenses carry no Wisconsin privilege. Plan on a Wisconsin RN license before any Wisconsin hours, plus USI's approval of the site. The Illinois guide covers Illinois's own rules for clinicals on that side of the line.
