Living in Nevada: what USI's disclosure allows, and what Nevada's board expects
Nevada residents cannot enroll in any online nurse practitioner route at the University of Southern Indiana, whether they would come in through the MSN, a certificate after an earlier master's, or the doctorate straight from a BSN. USI's Professional Licensure Disclosure ("Updated Fall 2025") lists Nevada under Enrollment Not Allowed for all of them; only the BSN-to-DNP in Organizational and Systems Leadership leaves the state off.

Fourteen closed rows and one open one
USI puts Nevada in its "Enrollment Not Allowed for Residents of These States (due to State Nursing Regulations)" column on fourteen online rows: the RN-to-BSN, the education and systems leadership MSNs, the FNP, AGACNP and PMHNP at every level USI offers them, the post-master's doctorate in Advanced Nursing Practice, and the clinical nurse specialist DNP.

Every APRN row also says the curriculum meets Nevada's standard. That verdict concerns the coursework, the ban concerns your address, and USI applies both.
Clinical teaching in Nevada runs through its Board
Nevada writes internet-delivered programs into its rule by name. NAC 632.703 bars a program taught online or in another nontraditional format from giving clinical instruction in Nevada until the Nevada State Board of Nursing approves it, and a program operating partly in the state reports on a Board form with accreditation proof, evidence it follows Nevada's nursing law, and yearly school reports. Anyone teaching inside Nevada must hold a Nevada license, and the text makes no exception for graduate study.
In practice, the Board's September 1, 2026 program list shows only pre-licensure ADN and BSN programs among the schools from other states approved for clinical-only placements. A 2005 Board practice decision also keeps faculty in charge of every student experience, caps each on-site preceptor at a pair of students, and expects the program to orient preceptors with written objectives.
Nevada NPs practice independently, although Schedule II prescribing opens only after two years or 2,000 practice hours unless a physician-approved protocol applies. Nevada's own NP students mostly train around Las Vegas, home to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, HCA's Sunrise hospitals, the Valley Health System and Dignity Health's Henderson campuses, or up north in Reno and Carson City, where Renown Health dominates.
A Nevada license, with no compact shortcut
Nevada never joined the Nurse Licensure Compact. Its Board has also ruled that treating someone who is in the state at the time takes Nevada's own license, and it names student clinical work among the covered activities. USI adds its own rule: a clean RN license valid wherever you train and, for telehealth hours, a license where the patient is. The RN license page explains how USI checks it.

Questions USI students ask
Can I enroll in USI's online PMHNP program from Las Vegas?
No. All three PMHNP routes at USI (the MSN, the certificate and the BSN-to-DNP) carry Nevada in the Enrollment Not Allowed column of the Fall 2025 table, even though each also marks the coursework as meeting Nevada's requirements. For admission, residency is what counts.
Is any USI online nursing program open to Nevada residents?
On the Fall 2025 table, only the leadership-focused BSN-to-DNP in Organizational and Systems Leadership. The RN-to-BSN and both leadership MSNs are closed to Nevadans. The table has changed between versions, so confirm with the graduate nursing program before you apply.
I live in California near Reno. Could my USI clinicals be in Nevada?
Plan on California. Nevada wants Board approval before any online program teaches clinically in the state, its approved list shows only pre-licensure schools, and you would need a Nevada license on top of your California one. If a Nevada site appeals to you, ask the Graduate Clinical Liaison before you reach out.
Is there a Nevada cap on students per preceptor?
Yes, in the Board's 2005 practice decision: no more than a pair of students per preceptor, who has to be on site. USI's own standard is one student per preceptor, physically present, so a USI arrangement would already sit well inside Nevada's limit.
